Music Director

Kat Sherrell is currently the Music Associate on the National Tour of Hamilton

In New York, she has worked as a pianist, music director, and/or arranger on a wide variety of projects: Broadway shows In the Heights, Bring It On, and The Book of Mormon, and NBC's Smash; and numerous musicals in development.

Fun fact: Kat made her conducting debut in Germany at the age of three during the Crucifixion scene of the Passionsspiele (fortunately the surrounding audience members didn't mind the disruption). That lifelong passion for conducting took her to the acclaimed 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle, where she was the Associate and Interim Music Supervisor for three years, music directing and conducting productions of A Christmas Story, The Sound of Music, Lerner and Loewe’s Paint Your Wagon and Carousel (Rising Star Project), as well as overseeing many other productions, educational and new works projects, and special events. Her vocal arrangements for the Peter Rothstein-helmed 16-cast production of Ragtime received acclaim in both Seattle and at Asolo Rep in Sarasota.

Musical direction by Kat Sherrell is smooth as silk, and the goodly sized orchestra sounds great.

A Christmas Story returns to the 5th Avenue with a new production in which the director, Brandon Ivie, quickly establishes a level of professionalism that’s impressive. The same is true of Kat Sherrell’s musical direction.

The music, conducted with spirit by Kat Sherrell, sweeps you up with its gusto and nuance. The cast is nearly flawless, with standout performances by George and Michels (“Whoop-Ti- Ay”), Cuccioli (“Wand’rin’ Star”) and Lopez (“Another Autumn”).
